Metal Etching
METAL ETCHING
Metal etching, it is also called metal photo etching, or metal chemical etching, it is a form of production process that uses hydrochloric acid,or sulfuric acid, or nitric acid as well as other chemical etchant to remove layers of the metal, which is a highly accurate production process used to manufacture high precision metal parts, it can manufacture any desired shape of high precision metal parts easily and cost effectively.
Stainless steel etching, aluminum etching and cooper etching or brass etching are the most common and popular metal etching in our etching factory.
Comared to other production processes, metal etching/photo etching/chemical etching supports very low tolerances and high repeatability for features that are too small to achieve with other conventional processes like stamping, it is much more cost efficient with shorter lead time, more design flexibility, and no need for deburring, it is also no need to make special tooling or mold for production. That is why it is an optimal choice for manufacturing the precision metal parts, regardless of prototyping or industrial mass production.

1.CAD Drawing
To make CAD drawing of the pattern to be etched on the same size of the metal sheet to make the photo film
To make CAD drawing of the pattern to be etched on the same size of the metal sheet to make the photo film
2.Material Cutting
To cut the metal in sheets from rolls or larger size, which suits for etching machines or etching production line
3.Cleaning
The metal sheet need to be chemically cleaned first,it is to ensure that it is free from potential contaminants
4.Photoresist Coating
The sheet is coated with a film that is resistant to the chemical etchant called ‘photoresist’
5.Baking
To dry the sheet with photoresist by baking
6.Exposure
A photo fime with the pattern to be etched is overlaid on the photoresist covered sheet, which is then exposed to UV light. The area that is not covered by the etched pattern is activated by the UV light and it will prevent the acid etching the metal in this area
7.Development
The sheet is put through a development stage where the unexposed photoresist is removed, leaving uncovered metal areas to be etched by the acid
8.Chemical Etching
Developed metal sheet goes through the etching process in the etching machine or etching production lines where it is sprayed with the chemical etchant to etch the required pattern into the metal
9.Cleaning
The material is cleaned to remove the remaining photoresist
10.QC&Packing
After QC and packing, it is ready for shipment
